ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY AND COLLEGE
The Urbana-Champaign campus of the University of Illinois ( http://www.uiuc.edu ) is located approximately 120 miles south of Chicago in a community of more than 100,000 people. The student enrollment is 39,500 (limited), and there are more than 2,000 tenure/tenure-track faculty members. In addition to its mission as a land-grant university , the campus offers exceptional programs in the arts, humanities, sciences, and engineering. The College of Agricultural , Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) ( http://www.aces.uiuc.edu ) has 235 tenure-track faculty members and an enrollment of approximately 2,200 undergraduate and 600 graduate students. It is widely recognized for excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, research, outreach, and international programs. The College also serves the State of Illinois through the University of Illinois Extension system, and 12 research and demonstration centers. The academic departments within the College include: Agricultural and Biological Engineering, Agricultural and Consumer Economics, Animal Sciences, Crop Sciences, Food Science and Human Nutrition, Human and Community Development, and Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences.
POSITION DESCRIPTION AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The Associate Dean for Academic Programs provides leadership and administrative oversight with the goal of excellence in the academic programs of the College of ACES including:
- Primary leadership and oversight responsibility for admissions policies, recruitment, orientation, advising, student records, honors programs, study abroad opportunities, and career advising and placement of undergraduate students ;
- Service as the College's liaison to the Graduate College on matters of academic policy and programs concerning graduate students;
- Representation of the College on academic policy matters at the campus, state, regional, national, and international levels;
- Participation in College-level decisions concerning promotion and tenure of faculty members;
- Supervision of personnel and administers budgetary and fiscal matters in the Office of Academic Programs.
- Leadership of programs to recognize excellence in teaching and to provide teaching improvement opportunities for faculty , instructors, and teaching assistants such as the ACES Teaching College, Teaching Academy, and teaching improvement workshops.
In fulfilling these responsibilities, the Associate Dean for Academic Programs reports directly to the Dean of the College of ACES and works closely with the Associate Dean for Research, the Associate Dean for Extension and Outreach, and the department heads within the College. Each Associate Dean is appointed to support all three aspects of the College's mission, with the majority appointment in the domain of primary responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have a doctorate in a field of study associated with one of the departments in the College of ACES , and demonstrated excellence in instruction , and research at levels that qualify for a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of full professor in a department of the College. Successful applicants will be dedicated to serving students, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, understand the scholarship of teaching and learning, have successful experience in managing budgets, have administrative or leadership experience in educational programs, be involved in national and international professional organizations, and appreciate the broad mission of a land-grant university.
SALARY:
Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
