URBANA-An international expert in innovative leadership will keynote University of Illinois Extension's Seventh Annual Statewide Leadership Conference to be held June 8 at the Hawthorn Suites, Champaign.

"Our keynoter, David Beurle, is the founder and managing director of Innovative Leadership Australia," explained Anne Heinze Silvis, U of I Extension program development specialist. "He created this business because of his interest and commitment to rural industries and communities.

"He's been invited to work with communities around the world with his practical, yet dynamic, approach to leadership and community engagement."

This year's conference theme is "The Seven Year Itch--Keeping the Thrill of Leadership Alive."

Silvis said the conference is targeted toward neighborhood and community leaders, committee members, Chamber of Commerce members, teachers, school administrators and students, economic development directors, farm organization leaders, agency staff, elected officials and others.

The day-long conference will feature a number of breakout sessions. Among those topics are crucial conversations, a program for improving interpersonal skills, enhancing civic engagement by keeping community members involved, and working at the grassroots.

One of the breakout sessions will include a panel of young leaders from elected positions and volunteer organizations.

Registration is $75 and can be completed online at the conference's web site located at: http://www.communitydevelopment.uiuc.edu, or send email to Silvis at asilvis@uiuc.edu or call (217) 244-0120. The conference is limited to 175 participants and registration ends May 20.
