U of I Agronomy Handbook Available on CD-ROM

Published: Apr. 1, 2005

URBANA-For more than 25 years, farmers and their advisers have turned to the Illinois Agronomy Handbook for research-based guidance. Since 1999, the printed book has been supplemented online by the Interactive Agronomy Handbook, which includes interactive decision aids for calculating nitrogen rate, limestone, seed drop rate, replant decisions, stand counting, and yield estimation.

But, now all of the Web site features are available on CD-ROM, eliminating the need for an Internet connection.

The CD-ROM also features the first version of the new Illinois Soil and Nutrient Management Planner (SNMP). With SNMP 1.0, users can generate and print the reports required by the Illinois Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to complete the federally mandated nutrient management plans. SNMP is embedded in chapters 11 and 12 of the handbook.

Updates to the Soil and Nutrient Management Planner will be made available to subscribers by download from the website.

The CD-Rom version of the Illinois Agronomy Handbook was developed with help from the State of Illinois through the Illinois Council for Food and Agricultural Research (C-FAR).

SNMP was funded by University of Illinois Extension and the Illinois Department of Agriculture.

The new CD-Rom is available at a cost of $45. Orders can be made online at https://webstore.aces.uiuc.edu/shopsite/IAH-CD.html.
