Petstravaganza 3 Set
Published: Apr. 3, 2008
URBANA - A family-friendly celebration of animal companions will be held for the third time at the University of Illinois. Petstravaganza is set for April 26 in the Stock Pavilion, 1402 W. Pennsylvania Avenue.
"This event provides a great opportunity for children and their parents to learn many interesting and important things about the animals we keep as companions," said Amy Fischer, U of I Extension companion animal specialist who organizes the event.
Petstravaganza features a number of exhibits and presentations which teach kids about the responsibility of caring for animals. Some topics include the use of microchips for identification, how to interact safely with animals, and how to select the right kind of animal based on lifestyle. A variety of animals will be on hand to help teach kids about horses, snakes, cats, birds, and more.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., and admission is free.
Several University of Illinois partners make this event possible--the College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences, U of I Extension, the Department of Animal Sciences, and the College of Veterinary Medicine. Corporate sponsors include Monsanto, ADM, BMO Capital Markets, Caterpillar, Farm Credit Services, 1st Farm Credit Services, and LaSalle Bank. Local sponsors include Caring Hands Animal Hospital, Four Counties Mobile Veterinary Service, Leisure Time Pet & Hobby, PJ's Grooming, and Companion Animal Housecalls.
